Note: One of my assumptions for this scenario - that the hatching of the insect eggs would
mean the end of the Beanworld cycle - has been invalidated by information presented on Larry Marder's blog. Another
assumption I make - that the attack on the Hoi Polloi by the corn critters is an extraordinary event - also seems to
be untrue. Thus, the text below is being retained here only to show how far wrong I got it. %?)
This is an outline of a possible "normal" Beanworld lifecycle. It assumes that no attack is made
on the Hoi Polloi by the Mirthful Mossy Mammoth's army.
- Gran'Ma'Pa emerges from hibernation and calls for reproductive propellant to produce a hero.
- More reproductive propellant is called for the first generation of beans.
- Beans grow up, learn their professions, and live through the seasons.
- The insects begin to awaken from their dormant mode. Der Kveen requires much food to produce eggs! The insects
emerge from Der Stinkle and discover the Hoi Polloi's chow. The Hoi Polloi battle the insects with much loss, but
the chow is devoured and Der Kveen produces her eggs and dies. The mystery pods wind up on the top layer of Der
Stinkle. It takes a while for the beans and the Hoi Polloi to recover from this disaster.
- The seasons pass. Another generation of beans arrives to replace any who died.
- The Hoi Polloi, hugging their chow to them, enter a hibernation state inside pods that form around them.
Beans wonder how they are to survive, when...
- The mystery pods hatch and first stage insects emerge and start to eat everything - the four realities, the island.
The hero goes down fighting. The beans flee to Gran'ma'pa for protection. The insects consume Gran'ma'pa - right down
to a shiny core, which breaks their teeth. The Fix It Shop is likewise reduced to an inedible husk, with a grain of life
deep within... The inedible remains of beanworld drift down and form a new layer of Der Stinkle. Infighting among the
insects. along with the actions of various predators (such as the Big Fish) reduce the insect population, leaving a
dominant Kveen and some retainers, who settle down in Der Stinkle for the long winter.
- Spring arrives. The seed that was Gran'ma'pa takes root and grows. A small bump of land forms underneath.
Service jerks bring a smidgen of propellant, and twinks come forth. Among the twinks, the bump starts to rise.
Buds form on the underside of gran'ma'pa - spores in which the remaining beans from last season had been assimilated.
These spores form additional Hoi-Polloi, restoring those lost from previous times.
- The island grows and solidifies underneath Gran'Ma'Pa. The Fix It Shop bulges forth as a fruit; it will drop when
it reaches maturity, ready to bestow knowledge upon a new generation of beans.
- Gran'Ma'Pa emerges from hibernation and calls for reproductive propellant to produce a hero...
